How to do these

Find the slope through (2,3) and (5,9)

  1. Slope is the change in y over the change in x.
  2. 9 - 3 = 6 and 5 - 2 = 3.
  3. 6 over 3.

The answer is 2.

Where students go wrong

Subtracting in a different order top and bottom. As long as both start from the same point it works; mixing them flips the sign, which is the single most common slip on this topic.
