What a 750 Actually Means
At the 95th percentile you have outscored about 19 of every 20 students who sat the test. On the score report this is the range where colleges stop reading your math score as a question and start reading it as answered. It also means something concrete about how you got there: with roughly 4 wrong answers allowed across both modules, a 750 is not a fundamentals score. It is a score you reach when the fundamentals are automatic and most of the hard questions fall too.
Where a 750 Stands in Admissions
At almost every university in the country, including the top publics we covered in the 700 guide, a 750 sits at or above the middle of admitted students. The exceptions are the handful of schools whose admitted classes cluster at the very top of the scale: at MIT and Caltech the middle 50% of admitted math scores runs roughly 780 to 800, and the most selective Ivies sit close behind. If those schools are the target, a 750 is good but not yet distinctive, and the sections below are for you. For everyone else, a 750 has done its job.
The Last 50 Points Are a Different Sport
Getting from 600 to 700 is about coverage: learn the topics, drill the recurring types. Getting from 750 to 800 is about elimination. You are no longer learning math; you are hunting down the two or three ways you still lose points, and they are usually not knowledge gaps. They are process failures on questions you know how to do, plus a short list of genuinely hard types that show up test after test. The data says the same thing. The single most-missed question in our set, out of 14,567 graded answers, asks for the surface area of two identical rectangular prisms glued into one solid. 61% of students got it wrong, and there is no hard math in it. Joining the prisms hides two faces, and most people add the two surface areas without subtracting them.
