August 2026 SAT Scores: What Nine Students Got and What 700 Means

College Board released the August 22, 2026 SAT scores on September 4, thirteen days after the test. Nine students who prepped on Sigma Prep this summer sent us their score reports. Here is what they got, with nothing rounded.

The nine

Math 690 to 790. Four of the nine at 750 or above. Eight of them had taken the SAT before, and every one went up: 80 to 180 points on the total score, and 80 to 110 in Math.

These are the students who sent reports, not a random sample. The pattern is the point: every retaker moved 80 to 110 points in Math, from the 600s into the 700s, and that is the move that changes which schools are realistic.

Were the scores a surprise? No.

Every student in that table had been taking full-length, timed practice tests in the weeks before August 22, mostly College Board's own Bluebook tests, and their official Math score landed inside the range they had been posting on those tests. Nobody jumped 60 points on test day. Nobody fell off a cliff. The real test scored them the way the practice tests had been scoring them.

That is the most useful thing a practice test can tell you, and it is not the number. It is the range. You cannot predict a single sitting; the questions you happen to draw and the day you happen to have will move you 10 or 20 points either way. What you can predict is the band. Our rule:

If your last three timed practice tests land within about 30 points of each other, expect that score on the real thing. A 690, a 710 and a 700 means you are a 700, plus or minus the day. If the three are swinging 80 points, you do not have a score yet. You have a set of skills that show up on some days and not others, and the fix is in the misses from those tests, not in taking more of them.

This is why the practice tests on Sigma Prep report a range like 700 to 720 instead of a single number, and why the score trajectory on your dashboard matters more than any one dot on it. Three dots in a row at the same height is the signal. One high dot is not.

What a 700 in Math means

A 700 is higher than about 92% of test takers and above the middle range at most colleges. At the most selective engineering and Ivy-level schools the middle half of admitted students sit above 750, so there it reads as average. On the digital SAT you have to be routed into the harder second module for a 700 to be possible at all, and from there most forms allow roughly six to nine wrong out of 44. What the ones who went up actually did

The same three things, in order. A full-length timed test to find the misses. The misses sorted by topic and drilled easy to hard until they stopped. A second timed test to confirm it. The ones who went up the most were not the ones who did the most problems. They were the ones who stopped practicing the topics they already had.

Every one of them also had the 24 formulas and concepts cold. Not memorized from a list. Used, on real questions, until they were automatic.

If your August score was not what you wanted

The next test dates are October 3, November 7 and December 5. Eight of the nine above are retakers, and every one of them went up, because the first sitting was the practice test they never took.
