Perimeter and area in the coordinate plane worksheet

Given the corners of a shape, the side lengths come from the coordinates. For sides parallel to an axis you can just subtract, and the perimeter and area follow from there. This is one of the first things a Geometry course does, because it ties the algebra you already have to the shapes you are about to meet.

How to do these

Find the perimeter of the rectangle with vertices (2,4),(6,4),(6,12),(2,12)

  1. The width is 6 minus 2, which is 4.
  2. The height is 12 minus 4, which is 8.
  3. Perimeter is twice 4 plus 8.

The answer is 24.
