Algebra is the largest area on SAT Math and the one where most points are won or lost. It is also the most predictable: five skills, and the test draws from them in almost the same ratio every time. We counted every Algebra question on all 8 Bluebook practice tests, then checked the ratio against the 605 Algebra questions in College Board’s Question Bank. Counted September 2026, after College Board’s August Question Bank update.

"Per test" is the average on a 44-question form. "Test share" is that skill’s slice of the Algebra questions on a test and "Bank share" is its slice of the bank’s Algebra questions, so the two can be read against each other. "Hard" is the share of the skill’s bank questions labeled Hard.
What to take from it
- Linear functions leads at 4.6 per test. These are the "what does the slope mean in this story" questions. Interpreting a line in context is the most practiced Algebra skill and still the most missed, because the wrong answers describe the other number.
- Two-variable equations and systems are a tie at 3.1 each. Together with linear functions that is 10.8 questions on lines alone.
- Linear inequalities in one or two variables is the smallest at 1.8 per test, and Desmos shades it for you. Low priority unless you are already past 700.

How we counted
All 8 Bluebook practice tests (528 unique Math questions, each carrying College Board’s own skill label; "per test" is a 44-question form averaged over 16 module combinations) set against the full Math Question Bank (1,876 questions, counted September 2026, after College Board’s August Question Bank update). Difficulty labels come from the bank, since Bluebook questions carry none. No College Board question is reproduced. The full method is in the overview.
