The digital SAT Math section is 44 questions in two modules of 22, 35 minutes each. Wrong answers cost nothing extra, so your raw score is just the number right. College Board does not publish a raw-to-score table for the adaptive test itself: it scores each question by its difficulty (item response theory), so the count gets you close and the mix of which ones you missed decides the last 10 to 20 points. Every table online, this one included, is an estimate built from practice tests.
The second module is adaptive. Your Module 1 result decides whether Module 2 is the harder or the easier set. The harder set is the only realistic route to 700 and up. The easier set caps the section even with a perfect Module 2; published estimates of that cap run from the high 500s to the 600s. That is why the calculator warns you when Module 1 looks too low for the hard route.
Because harder questions count for more, 40 right can be 740 for one student and 760 for another. A calculator that prints one exact score is hiding that. The range here is the same estimate the app shows after a practice test, and it is an estimate: expect the real score to land in or near the range, not on one exact number.

You answer 44 questions across two 35-minute modules of 22. There is no penalty for a wrong answer, so start by counting how many you got right. The digital SAT then weights each question by its difficulty, so the number right gets you close and the mix of which ones you missed, plus which second module you were given, decides the last 10 to 20 points.
On the harder second module, about 9 wrong out of 44 still lands around 700. For 750 the room is roughly 4 wrong, and 800 usually needs every question right.
Yes, in one specific way. Module 1 decides which Module 2 you get. Do well enough and you get the harder module, which is the only path to the top scores. Miss too many and you get the easier module, which caps your score no matter how well you do on it. This calculator assumes the harder module.
Not the kind people mean. Your score is not compared to the other students who took the test that day. What exists is difficulty weighting: the digital SAT scores each question by how hard it is, so two students with the same number right can land a few points apart depending on which questions they missed and which second module they got. That is the "curve" people notice when one wrong answer costs 20 points on one date and 10 on another, and it is why an honest calculator gives a range, not one exact number.
About 510 is the national average. 600 is roughly the top 20 percent, 700 is around the top 8 percent, 750 is the top 5 percent, and 750 and up is the range the most selective STEM programs expect.
